My favourite Taper Workout!
Dirtbags! A few folks are racing this weekend and next, so I figure we should do one of my favourite taper workouts! This one is designed to simulate the rapid changes in pace and grade that you'll experience when racing and you'll be hitting some quick downhills on fatigued legs.
Basically it's 8 by 3 mins with a twist. The first 2 mins of each rep is done hard uphill, then you immediately turn around with the last minute done hard downhill.
We'll take 2 mins rest after each 3 min block and repeat 8 times.
If you are racing this weekend then do a couple of reps at full effort, then ease off the intensity for the remainder, and if you're targeting some trail races later in the season, this one will build strength in the legs - both uphill and downhill specific, as well as challenge you from a cardiorespiratory standpoint. Big bang for the buck!
Let's meet at the Nordic centre 6PM - usual spot in the dirt lot on the left - and then we'll jog on over to the Spray hill for the session.
See you all tomorrow!
